Johnny Farrar is a third-grade boxer, thumbing a ride to Miami, where he figures he can hit a jackpot. As fate would have it, he has a brush with gangsters in Pelotta, a small town on the way, only to be persuaded to fight a fixed boxing match and earn some money, a suit of clothes and a beat-up car, so he can arrive in Miami in style. But a woman's looks and challenge make him forget the fixed match, and soon he is running out of town, with the woman, Della, who is the wife of casino boss,  Paul Wertham. The getaway car is involved in a crash and Wertham dies. Della's idea is simple but dangerous: Johnny has to  impersonate Jack Ricca, manager of the Los Angeles casino and arrive at the Lincoln Beach casino, managed by Reisner, who has never seen Ricca. Della and Farrar would collect half a million from the Lincoln Beach casino, ostensibly on the instructions of the owner, Wertham, who is already dead...   But Della is not just after the cash reserves of the Lincoln Beach casino;  she wants to take over the entire casino herself, and she wants Johnny as a partner - provided he remains faithful to her.  But Johnny falls in love with a local girl, Virginia,  and the real Ricca of Los Angeles  arrives in Lincoln Beach....

It does not take long for Lola to seduce and then persuade Chet to open the safe, who refuses. However, Roy suddenly appears on the scene and violence erupts.

Next he tried to see Janet's personal maid, but found that somebody else had reached her first and made sure that she wouldn't talk to anyone - ever again.  Malloy realised that unless he dropped the case, he himself, almost certainly, would become the unknown killer's next victim; but when the blonde nurse disappeared and a hired gunman tried to shoot him, it seemed that Malloy didn't have any choice left. Malloy had to get to the bottom of the whole affair, although he had now been kidnapped, renamed as Edmund Seabright and incarcerated in a high security private asylum, with a maniacal killer as a room partner....

He meets up with a beauty, Claire Wonderly, and is about to enjoy his vacation, when he is accused of murdering the local political leader, Herrick. On the run with Claire, he learns that he has been made the fall guy, because of his reputation  and just about the entire city administration was involved in the scam, which included smuggling, printing counterfeit notes and smuggling of Cubans. 

     Not to take things lying down, the daredevil Cain, manages to wrap up things with the help of the local FBI and some honest citizens. He even manages to leave Paradise Palms alive, after marrying Claire and vowing to give up gambling and gun-toting. But fate has some terrible things in store for him.....

Hit and Run

When Chester Scott  first visited his boss, Aitkin's house one night, after the latter had a fall from the stairs of a restaurant, little did he know that his life was going to be sucked in a vortex of blackmail, intrigue and murder.  Aitkin's wife, Lucille,  young and sexy,  was also lonely;  she wanted to learn driving,  persuaded Ches to take her to lonely beach roads and teach her. Ches thought that she was falling for him - till he made his first advance, which Lucille spurned and dashed away with his car. But she had an hit and run accident, in which a cop was killed - and a blackmailer started demanding money from her. But things were not so straight forward as they first seemed. For example, why did Lucille suddenly want to learn driving, when she already had a driving license? How was patrolman O'Brien  killed in an accident on a lonely beach road, when he should have been on duty on a highway, some miles away? How did the blackmailer know so much, when he couldn't have possibly been on the scene?      And why were there bloodstains on the off-side wheel of Scott's Cadillac, when they should have been on the near-side??

He Won't Need It Now

An old-style gangster novel, appearing somewhat incongruous in today's context. Bill Duffy, a press photographer is thrown out of his regular job in the Tribune, but is approached by a gangster, Morgan, to take pictures of a woman, supposedly his wife, being blackmailed. However, the woman is actually the wayward daughter of a corrupt politician, who has the local police in his pockets. Soon, corpses start tumbling out and the going gets rough for Duffy, as the police, the drug gang lords and almost everybody starts gunning for him.  Duffy tries to set up his own small outfit, to take on the bad guys...and amazingly, manages to find an armored Buick, to help in his gun battles. At this point of time, the distinction between him and the bad guys becomes somewhat blurred. No wonder that he gets shot in the process, with the gangsters catching up with him and strangling him to death at the end....

Have A Nice Night

Ed Haddon, king of art thieves, once again cooks up a robbery plan  - this time to rob the rich guests of the Spanish Bay Hotel of Paradise City. He teams up with Lu Brady, safe-breaker and his partner-in-crime once again; he also hires the services of the sexy Maggie, girlfriend of Lu and ex-US army sergeant, Mike Bannion, who is a dead shot. There was to be absolutely no violence - only the guests would be shot with tranquilizing darts from Bannion's gun, if so required. In a parallel development, Detective Tom Lepski of Paradise City Police shoots down a runaway killer, Pedro, a Cuban, whose fiancé, Anita,  works at the same Hotel.  Anita must avenge his death, and she turns to Fuentes, another Cuban crook and Manuel Torres, who is known to be a man of truth... but is actually a bigger crook than Feuntes.  It is no great deal that the two separate groups of crooks descend upon the Hotel and violence erupts...

When Perelli saved Vic Malloy's life, the private eye promised to return the favour - on the house, whenever required. Three weeks later, Perelli is framed on a kidnap charge. The victim, Dedrick, was married to Serena,  one of the richest women in the world, who paid half a million dollars to get him back and  apparently wasted her money. When Malloy starts investigating, all his leads end up dead. Dedrick was a man nobody loved, with a past nobody wanted to talk about - suddenly, even Serena  was willing to buy Malloy off, with the biggest fee he'd ever seen. However,  that left Perelli set for the gas chamber and Malloy liked to pay his commitments... But even Malloy had not reckoned on being imprisoned in an old dank mine, by Dedrick himself, with man-eating rats for company...
